Guest Blog with Jennifer Johnson Day One

Erica and Jeri are probably about to kill me. It is 3:30 on Sunday, October 17. Jeri asked me to have the blog information to her today. Well, it’s today, and I will get it to her, but it will be at the last minute. Why? Because on Friday (yes, two days ago) I just finished a Heartsong book.

It was kind of a bittersweet book to write. It’s the third, and last, of the series. Maid to Love, the one that came out this month, was the first. So, here I am, boohooing because I just finished the last all the while I have to come up with a blog to get you, my readers, excited about the first.

It feels a little weird to me. I’m not the best marketer in the world. Don’t get me wrong, I WANT you to read and like my books. But, I do have a hard time throwing my babies out there and imploring you to read them. Are they good reads? Well, YEAH! DUH! It’s just kinda weird to say, “Hey! You! READ MY BOOK!”

All that aside, I’ll stop whining that the series is done, and give you a heads up about what the books are about. They’re set in Kentucky. Go WILDCATS! There are four good-ol-country boys who make a bet, because they like to compete about everything, that whoever is last to get hitched is the winner.

Of course, my first guy up is Nick Martin. I love Nick Martin. He’s a good boy. All the way around. I’ll be happy if one of my girls (I have three, by the way) decides to marry Nick Martin. Anyway, a flash-from-the-past woman (the gal who’d had a crush on him all of her teenage years and drove him to insanity because of it) walks back into his life. And guess what, she’s not a teenager anymore. She’s a woman.

That’s all I’m going to say. You’re going to have to read the book. It’s a good’n. I promise you’ll like it.

Who is a hero that you absolutely love, maybe even enough to marry your daughter off to him?

  1. Congratulations on finishing another book! :D I can imagine how bittersweet that must really be, though, so thank you for still taking the time to share about your books with us at this time!

Since I'm a single college girl, I'm coming from more of the "daughter" viewpoint. Which means, anybody know a hero that would be good for me? ;) Just kidding! I've got to trust in God's plan and His timing, so for now I'll revel in my singleness. :)

  2. I've created a few heroes whom I wish were real! But my daughter is already married. (To Amber - your day will come! Keep trusting the Lord.)

Jennifer, I like your title - "Maid to Love." Good play on words!

  3. I'm in the same place as Amber--single college girl, waiting for Prince Charming. I've read quite a few books with heroes I wouldn't have minded being real--and they were such gentlemen, I'm sure my parents would have approved. They were cowboys, so what's not to love? ;)

  4. I love Mr. Darcy. He's probably my all time favorite hero. And Amber and Kaitlin, keep praying and waiting. My daughter was 28 when she met her husband. And he was God sent, for sure. My dear friend's daughter ran out of patience and settled. There is a world of difference when you wait on the Lord.

  5. I try to make all my heroes 'that guy' by the end of the book, but there are a few that are really dear to my heart. My next Heartsong, Maggie and the Maverick...the hero, Cal, holds a special place.

Amber and Kaitlin, I hope your heroes come along in God's good time. They'll be getting some gems in the two of you! :)

  6. Ooohhh...Jennifer! You've "sold" me on your book already, LOL! Seriously, it sounds great and I look forward to reading it (and your others too). Congratulations on finishing the series--I'm sure that must be a good feeling!~ I don't mean to sound "gushy" but one of my daughters is getting married next month, and she's marrying exactly WHO I would've picked for her! Shaun truly could be the "hero" in a book, because he adores my Becca and would do anything for her. This is my first time as "Mother of the Bride" and I'm very blessed! ~ Patti Jo :)

  7. Hey Jennifer!
Hope everything is going fantastic for you! Sorry you are sad about the end, but I know you have so many more stories to share that you will soon start another, if you haven't already. As a guy with no daughters, I'm sure my take on heroes is a bit different. I think about the type of hero I would hope to be. I love Jimmy Stewart in, well, in basically anything. I especially love him in "It's a Wonderful Life." What an every man type of hero! Also, I love Clark Davis from Janette Oke's "Love Comes Softly." When I think of his character, I think of the scripture that instructs men to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Powerful!

  8. Thank you, everyone, for your encouragement! :D

And Aaron, I just loved Clark Davis, as well! I think the actor they got to portray him in the movie version of Love Comes Softly did such a great job of showing his love for the Lord, his quiet strength, his patience, and his gentle caring. :)

  9. Patti Jo, my daughter's wedding was one of the sweetest times of my life. Enjoy every second. I also got to help my daughter-in-law because her mom was two thousand miles away. Both were such precious times.

And I loved Clark Davis as well, Aaron and Amber. I didn't think of him before, but he was a good guy.

  10. I love all this conversation. What fun! Aaron, you know I love you. You are a true hero!

Amber and Kaitlin, as everyone else said, I just encourage you to stay faithful to God...even when it's tough. He's got it. :)

Donna, I love the title too. Can't take credit for it though. My editor, JoAnne, though it up. :)

CatMom, I hope you love the books. :)

Erica and Jeri, thanks so much for all you do!
