Today is my birthday. How cool is that? This blog makes a great birthday present.
Birthdays put me in mind of birth and babies. I am eagerly awaiting the birth of my first grandson next month, who will join his three older sisters.
Let me share a story about the three girls. The first time they visited my new house, they each displayed their personality. Larger-than-life Savannah (14 going on 30) shot for the back bedroom and announced, “This one is mine!”
Toddler Jordan found a big bouncing ball in the pile of moving boxes. (I couldn’t have laid my hands on it.) She claimed it as her own and tried to take it home with her.
Shannon, at ten, didn’t say much ... but she was the only one who said “It’s a nice house.”
I want the characters in my books to be as individual as my grandchildren and as well-rounded as real people. I look forward to your feedback regarding Josiah and Sally. Did I succeed?
Question of the Day: First, let me say Happy Birthday, Darlene!
The question is: Cake...what's your favorite kind of cake?

Chocolate!!! I love it-- especially from the Giant Eagle bakery. Mmmm!
ReplyDeleteMy son is odd in that he doesn't really like chocolate. Not me! Either chocolate cake with chocolate icing or else carrot cake with cream cheese icing.
ReplyDeleteI think red velvet cake is lovely...to look at and to eat. :)
ReplyDeleteAt my daughter's graduation reception we had a chocolate layer cake with hazelnut creme filling...wowser! Was that rich! But so good.
German chocolate cake is my favorite but it has more to do with the frosting than the cake!
ReplyDeleteI'm a chocoholic so it's got to be chocolate cake with chocolate icing!
ReplyDeleteI'm gluten intolerant, so I've had to give up on some of my old faves, but the Cheesecake Factory's Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake is gluten-free and absolutely to die for! Second best is flourless chocolate cake topped with thick ganache.
ReplyDeleteI tend more toward cake and not the frosting. My favorite is called Peanut Butter Crunch Cake. It is a peanut butter cake with a chocolate chip and crumble topping. With a glass of milk...priceless!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're all making me hungry for some cake. They all sound delish, especially that peanut butter crunch cake.
ReplyDeleteIt has to be chocolate-chocolate. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great birthday, Darlene! :)
Darlene Happy Birthday!!!! My fav? Strawberry, pineapple, banana with lemon filling Our local bakery specializes in it and I get it for every one of my B-days!!! Enjoy your special day!
ReplyDeleteAaron, that cake sounds fabulous! I would love to have the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of cake! I guess my favorites are lemon pound cake (using my favorite recipe, not just any lemon pound cake) and carrot cake! Yum!
