From The Vault

Romance Rides the Range
HS904

Sarah Anderson escapes her stepfather and his unruly children and heads for California and her brother Seth, trusting God to keep her safe on the perilous journey west. Matt Sterling rescued Seth from danger and taught him to become a top hand on the Sterling ranch. Betrayed by one selfish girl, Matt has vowed the San Joaquin River will run dry before he ever gets involved with another woman. He's better off fighting cattle rustlers, floods, and drought to make his spread one of the finest in the valley. Why, then, is he so concerned about Seth's sister?

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD” (Isaiah 54:17)

A familiar verse from Genesis 12 popped into [Sarah’s] head. Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee.

Leave? Sarah held her breath and stared at the pale moonlight peeking through the cracks in the attic roof. Run away? She shivered in the dark. How could she just up and leave? She had no place to go, no money to get there. Worse, she would be alone—dreadfully alone.

Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Sarah held her breath in wonder. All those Bible verses she’d learned as a child were coming back to her, just when she needed them most. But again, the word “how” kept rearing its ugly head—mocking her, urging her to stay and accept her future.

Do you remember the first Bible verse you learned as a kid? or later in life? or a verse that's meant a lot to you? You don't have to know the address and just a phrase will do.

  1. I learned John 3:16 as a little bitty kid. I don't really have one favorite verse. Different ones have ministered to me in different seasons. I love that about God's Word. It speaks right where we are.

  2. I remember reading Love's Long Journey by Janette Oke when I was a young teen, and the characters took Isaiah 41:10 as their key verse. I read and reread that verse, and to this day, when I'm worried, or afraid, or uncertain, or when I want to praise God for who He is, that's the verse that comes to mind first.

I am so thankful for Christian Fiction and how it points us to God.

  3. I don't remember what the first verse I learned was, but the verse that I have been using as "my verse" for a while is Psalm 55:22. It reminds me how important it is to pray and reminds me just how much He loves me--enough to take my cares :)

  4. All through my teenage years a plaque reminded me that: "Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1Cor 10:31 It still sits here on my desk today, a constant reminder that I am but a vessel - no matter how weak or strong - that must seeks to be used by Him glorify my Lord.
I'll look out for this book from Colleen. It has been years since we had personal contact and great to see another book out from her!

  5. I love what Jeri said: God's word speaks right where we are. So true!! There have been so many verses that have helped me as I've gone through different trials, etc. in life, but most recently was Isaiah 41:10. That was "my special verse" I clung to as I prepared to undergo my four spinal surgeries this past summer. Those words were such a comfort to me! Blessings, Patti Jo :)
