HISTORICAL

Kat just wants to play the game she loves.

From the back cover:

When Kat Miller first tries out for the All-American Girls Professional Softball League, she thinks how exciting it would be to get paid to play the game she loves. But then she actually makes a team. She struggles with long road trips, grueling practices, and the challenge of making time for God. Not only that, but older teammates are jealous of her success and an irritating reporter, Jack Raymond, has a knack for getting under Kat’s skin.

Jack lives with the shame of being physically disqualified from joining the American forces in World War II. Events in his career have left him cynical and distanced from God. That is, until Kat walks into his life. She challenges his preconceptions and refuses to compromise her beliefs, no matter what difficulties she faces. Will the flames of disappointment forge bitterness in his heart, or can the promises Kat reminds him of restore joy to Jack’s life?

Question of the Day: Are you a baseball fan? Do you have a team you root for?

  1. I have never been a fan of baseball, or any sport for that matter. However, I can see my opinion about sports changing if my son starts to play a sport. He's only four, but when he's older and playing on a team, sports might become more important to me.

  2. I'm not really a die-hard baseball fan, though I have sat through over ten years of my brother and sister playing baseball/softball, so the game has definitely grown on me. I'm more of a football girl, myself.

  3. I love baseball...most all sports really. As a kid, we went to Kansas City Royals games, and all summer long the Royals on the radio was the backdrop to our evening neighborhood kid games.

I am a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. There is no other kind of a Cubs fan. :)

  4. I love sports, but not baseball. That's what made writing this book such fun. :-) I loved the setting and the idea of what the girls did in the league. But fortunately I had a friend who is an avid baseball friend read those scenes for me to make sure I had the action right and tweak it where needed.

  6. Toronto Blue Jays, Yay!!!

Even though I now live on the prairies, I still remember the Blue Jay commercials from when I lived in Ontario:

    Okay (okay echo)
    Blue Jays (Blue Jays echo)
    Let's play ball! (everyone together)

The rest of the family thinks watching golf and baseball is boring but they don't realize how much stuff I can get done between pitches and strokes. :)

I have never been a big baseball fan but, follow the Baltimore Orioles. We are going to see the Chicago White Sox next month for my son's 13th Birthday. ( Our first baseball game).

I also have to say that I enjoyed reading this book, because I am fascinated by the AAGSL. I also love Cara's books.

  11. Jennifer, thanks for the kind comments! The AAGSL is fascinating! The players had such an opportunity to do something women had never done. And Rose, I think watching little league games is the sign of a devoted mother. Yikes!
