Fire and Ice - Excerpt

Here's just a little taste of Fire and Ice by Susan Page Davis.

Robyn's smile widened. "We'd probably better head back in case Mom's got company." She pulled out her phone and checked it. “Just as I thought. No service out here.”
“Let’s go.” Rick hurried to the back of his sled and reached for the snow hook. She hadn’t protested his comment. As they took the trail back, he found himself looking forward to kissing her and hoping that time came soon.
The dogs pulled them back toward the Holland Kennel yard at a smart trot. Rick believed those on his towline could have kept going all day and loved it. As the miles flew by, his thoughts drifted back to their embrace. Robyn was right—parkas weren’t the best attire for courting.
Cheryl came out the back door of the house as they came to a halt and ran to where Robyn hitched her team leaders.
“I’m so glad you’re back!”
“What is it, Mom? Did Mr. Sterns show up here?”
“Not yet, but six of our dogs are missing.”

The key verse for Fire and Ice:

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;” II Corinthians 4:8, NIV

QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever been to Alaska? If so, tell us a little about it. If not, what's the most exotic place you've visited?

Join us tomorrow for a guest blog with Susan where she tells us a little bit about the research that went into Fire and Ice, as well as her visit to Alaska and the home of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race.

  1. My family spent a month when I was 12 driving to Alaska. It was beautiful! We rode on a ferry down the coast for a ways and saw whales, which is awfully cool when you're from Minnesota! We saw lots of wild life. But the silly thing I looked forward to was seeing the snow. Dad stopped so we could go play in it the first place we came to.

  2. LOL I've never been farther than Florida! So I guess that's the most "exotic" place I've been! I really loved it though but I was afraid to go in the ocean so I didn't swim very much! :-P

    XOXO~ Renee

  3. I would love to go on an Alaskan cruise, but I've never been farther west than Wyoming.

I guess the most exotic place I've been is Devil's Tower. LOL!

I was in Alaska when I was 12. It was beautiful. My family and one of my dad's brother's family actually drove there one summer. The bad thing is after spending so long on the rough road through Canada we only stayed one night as my dad and uncle felt everything was too expensive. Oh well, it was wonderful to see it again through this series with Susan. I was fortunate enough to edit all three books and they are all wonderful. Great work, Susan!

  5. Never been to Alaska, but always wanted to go. My sister has a husky and seeing this made me miss her. (They live in Scotland now)

  6. I've never been to Alaska and the most exotic place I've been was Galveston, TX. Well, you know what they say, Texas, a whole nother country. It was my first and only time to get anywhere near the ocean. We rode a ferry to the island and picked up seashells, so I was happy as a clam.

  7. I think an Alaskan cruise would be amazing but there are so many warm tropical cruise locations that are more tempting to me. :) Doug and I have been on two Caribbean cruises and had such a great time.

  8. Alaska has always intrigued me, but we can't afford to go there. The most unique place for us was the Grand Canyon, coming home through Wolf Creek Pass--gorgeous! Snow in July!
